Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium: What Parents Need to Know

Pupil Premium is extra funding that the government gives to schools to help children who may need additional support. This includes pupils who get Free School Meals, children who are or were in care, and those from service families. The goal is to make sure every child has the same chances to succeed at school.

Schools can choose how best to use this funding. It might be spent on:

  • Improving teaching and learning
  • Providing extra academic help, like small‑group work or tutoring
  • Supporting attendance, behaviour, or well‑being so pupils are ready to learn

Although the money is linked to certain pupils, it doesn’t have to be spent on them individually. Instead, schools use it to create programmes and support that help disadvantaged children—and often benefit the wider school community too.

Overall, Pupil Premium helps schools close learning gaps, raise achievement, and give all pupils—including those facing challenges—access to enriching opportunities that help them thrive.

Visitors to our site can find out more about how we allocate this valuable funding by reading our current plan and the review of how we did with the previous plan in the attached links below.
