Miss Pilkington F2: Owls

Welcome to Owls Class!

Welcome to Owls Class!

In reception children form relationships and learn together through exciting experiences. We celebrate every child for their uniqueness and encourage this. We ensure that all children feel safe, secure and happy enabling them to flourish as individuals.

In our reception classes we believe learning through play is a very important part of our development. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum meaning that each area of learning and development is implemented through carefully planned opportunities that allow for purposeful play as well as a mixture of adult-led and child-initiated activities.

Our environment is stimulating and it inspires children to learn. Within the foundation unit there are lots of areas the children enjoy exploring from the role play area, small world and construction. The children enjoy sharing books with their friends in the reading area and writing at the writing area as well as getting messy in the creative area. The children flourish by being able to choose activities that appeal to them, following their own interests, using their imagination to create games and tell stories. To add to this, the children have a wonderful time baking on a Thursday afternoon and heading down to the Forest Area on a Friday.

We have an outdoor area which enhances, extends and builds on our learning. The children love spending time outside, building dens, making mud pies in the mud kitchen, building vehicles which large blocks and whizzing around on bikes. The children are active constantly building obstacle courses and developing their strength and problem solving skills.

In reception, we take part in daily Read Write Inc. sessions. During these lessons the children are introduced to different sounds and we work hard together on our blending and segmenting skills to enable us to read quickly.

We work hard and take great pride in what we do, we work as a team to live well together!
