Peacocks

Welcome to the Peacock class!

(Mixed year groups)

We are named after Jonnie Peacock as he is an inspirational person who is a champion for 'proud to be me!'

His motto is, 'you can do anything!' Jonnie Peacock is a perfect role model to help our children to understand that nothing can stop you from achieving your goals and dreams and reflects our mission statement to, 'Grow confident and aspirational children who believe in themselves and contribute positively to their community and the wider world.'

Who is Jonnie Peacock?

Jonnie Peacock is a paralympic sprinter. At age 5, he contracted meningitis resulting in the disease killing the tissues in his right leg, which was then amputated just below the knee. His mother would carry him to school when his very short stump was too sore to wear his prosthetic leg.[Peacock refers to his stump as his "sausage leg".

Although Jonnie wanted to play football, he was directed to a Paralympic sports talent day when he asked about disability sport in the hospital that fitted his prosthetic leg. Peacock ran his first international race at the Paralympic World Cup in Manchester in May 2012. In June 2012 Peacock set a new 100 meters world record in amputee sprinting, recording a time of 10.85 seconds. At the 2012 Summer Paralympics, Peacock won the 100m T44 final with a time of 10.90 seconds, claiming the gold and the Paralympic record in the process.

Peacock is a firm believer in everyone being unique and special in their own way.  He believes that you can do anything you set your mind to, and is a champion for inclusion.

All you need to know about Peacock Class.

  • nappies/wipes etc if needed.
  • Your coat

What will we be learning?

The focus in Peacock class is on communication and interaction needs, social understanding and relationships, emotional understanding and self awareness, and sensory processing needs.

We so one to one sessions in english, maths, reading and phonics which are all tailored to your child's individual needs and stage of development.

We also cover foundation subjects such as science, geography, history, RE and art.  We bake once a week.

What homework will we have?

Please encourage your child to read and read with them as much as possible. Studies show that reading for pleasure makes a big difference to children's educational performance and develops a broader vocabulary, increased general knowledge and a better understanding of other cultures.

  • Our expectation is that children read  at home 5 times per week and this needs to be signed by a parent each time.
  • Please use TTRS and Numbots for access to maths work at home. You can also use top marks maths which is a free website with many maths games on. The usernames and passwords for these are at the front of reading diaries.

Class Dojo

Children are awarded dojo points for positive behaviour, being on task, and showing kindness, as well as many other reasons.  Photographs are also added to the class story on dojo weekly so you can see what your children are up to. Dojo can also be used to contact staff with any issues.
